Chapter #9 Part 1: Iqama Renewal
Assalamu`alaikum and greetings to all…
For the past 3 years, there were so many changes happened in terms of my iqama renewal. On my first year, the process was done manually i.e. I have to submit my original passport, original iqama and copy of Saudi Council card to the Government Relation.
On my second year in service, the iqama renewal process was done automatically. I just have to make sure all my information such as re-contracting and Saudi Council certificate are updated in the system. I can check in Absher for the next iqama expiry date.
However, this year my iqama renewal process was put on-hold for almost 3 months (SAR500 paid by my sponsor). This is because the Ministry of Civil Service is introducing another new system. Since my working experience is only 3 years, having valid passport and Saudi Council is sufficient. For those who have been working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for 10 years or more, they need more supporting documents in order to proceed with the iqama renewal.
In line with the Vision 2030 and Nursing Development & Saudization program in health sectors, the government will not renew contract of expats working more than 10 years in the kingdom. Meaning that, no iqama no re-contracting.
So, where do I see myself in 10 years from now? That’s a question that all expats have to think about.
(Surah Yunus 10:61)
Until we meet again.
May peace be upon you.
